Custom Foot Orthotic Fabrication

At The Center for Restorative Therapies at Mercy in Baltimore patients are evaluated for custom foot orthotics. Our licensed physical therapists conduct an analysis of the patient’s walking or running patterns to determine the type of custom orthotics needed.

What is Custom Foot Orthotic Fabrication?

Custom foot orthotics may be indicated for patients experiencing lower extremity or back pain when walking or running. Rigid or semi-rigid custom foot orthotics are used to align the foot into an optimal position for normal function. Custom foot orthoses are designed to accommodate foot deformities or decrease weight on parts of the foot.

The physical therapists at The Center for Restorative Therapies at Mercy analyze walking or running patterns to determine if a modification to footwear is indicated and what type would best reduce the patient’s symptoms or improve function. Certain orthotics or shoe modifications can be created on-site at Mercy.

The Center for Restorative Therapies at Mercy provides general rehabilitative services including comprehensive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy as well as specialty services specific to various medical conditions such as lymphedema, cancer, osteoporosis and swallowing problems.
