Testicular Cancer Treated by Urologists at Mercy Medical Center

Common symptoms of testicular cancer include:
- Fluid buildup in the scrotum
- Heaviness to the scrotum
- Lump on either testicle
- Dull pain in abdomen or groin
- Pain in the scrotum or testicle
- Tenderness or enlargement of breasts
Many men find the cancer themselves by finding a lump randomly. Or, during an exam, a primary care doctor detects a lump. When this happens, an imaging ultrasound is usually required to see the nature of the lump and additional tests may include:
- Blood test
- CT scans
If cancer is found, the testicle is usually surgically removed. Lymph nodes in the groin may also be removed. If the cancer is in its early stages, this may be the only treatment necessary. However, with more advanced cancer, additional treatments may be necessary to kill any remaining cancer cells:
- Chemotherapy – Involves the administration of one or more drugs to kill cancer cells that may have traveled through the body.
- Radiation Therapy – Radiation is administered using highly directed beams through the body in precise points. It is sometimes used with chemotherapy treatment.
