CT Enteroclysis Scan Diagnoses Small Bowel Disease

CT enteroclysis is a state-of-the-art radiographic test for diagnosing small-bowel disease. Mercy‘s cancer doctors in Baltimore, working with our interventional radiologists, often use CT enteroclysis to detect small bowel tumors.

What is CT Enteroclysis?

CT (computed tomography) scan, or CAT scan, combines X-ray and digital images to create a clear picture of the organs, bones and tissues inside your body. CT enteroclysis is a hybrid method that combines a special contrast fluid with that of an abdominal CT.

How is a CT Enteroclysis performed?

Over a period of approximately one hour you will drink a fluid that will be used to allow your doctor to clearly see your small intestine through the CT scan.

A CT scan of your abdomen will then be taken. For the CT scan you will receive an injection or an IV of X-ray dye. It is important that you stay very still during the X-ray session.
