The Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy offers on-site access to a variety of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) for patients with foot and ankle injuries and conditions.

Durable Medical Equipment (DME) are equipment and supplies ordered by a health care provider for everyday or extended use. This may include but is not limited to crutches, walkers, canes, braces and splints.

The Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction also offers access to corrective footwear orthoses and prostheses. Also known as orthotic devices, orthoses are custom-made shoe inserts that are prescribed for people with chronic foot or leg pain. Foot orthoses work by:

  • Correcting bony alignment
  • Supporting the arch
  • Distributing weight over the foot
  • Providing shock absorption
