Clayton L. Dean, M.D., is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon at The Maryland Spine Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. Board Certified, and with more than a decade of experience, Dr. Dean offers patients a full spectrum of surgical treatment, ranging from outpatient microsurgery to complex deformity, cancer and revision surgery.

Dr. Dean performs comprehensive surgical management of all cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine conditions. He has specific training and interest in contemporary fusion techniques, motion preservation surgery, including disc replacement, and minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Dean employs advanced microsurgical techniques to offer patients a faster recovery time as compared with traditional open surgery.

Specialized Training for Spine Disorders and Injuries
While completing his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Dean was mentored by the late Henry Bohlman, considered the father of modern spine surgery. Dr. Dean went on to pursue Spine Surgery Fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he developed specialized skills in both orthopedic and neurosurgical spine techniques.
Dr. Dean served as Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery during his time at Emory University.

Dr. Clayton Dean sees patients at several convenient locations throughout the Baltimore area including Mercy's Downtown campus, Mercy Personal Physicians at Lutherville and Mercy Personal Physicians at Overlea.
To meet demand and better serve patients, Dr. Dean offers expanded office hours including evening hours on Mondays and Tuesdays until 7:00 pm at the Downtown Mercy office.
Dr. Dean performs surgeries at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore as well as SurgCenter of Towson, an affiliate of Mercy Medical Center.
