A National Center of Excellence
The gynecologic oncology specialists at The Lya Segall Ovarian Cancer Institute at Mercy understand the intricacies of ovarian cancer and the effect it has on women's overall health and well-being.
Women in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Virginia and across the Mid-Atlantic region have turned to Mercy's leading ovarian cancer doctors for their expertise in diagnosing ovarian cancer symptoms and their top quality surgical skills, including traditional and robotic surgery options, combined with their compassionate care and understanding nature.
Our patients are surrounded by a team of doctors, surgeons, nurses, healthcare experts, loved ones and family members to evaluate and determine the best course of action. Our promise is to embrace the journey together: to address the medical, emotional and physical needs of each woman.
Expert Ovarian Cancer Doctors and Clinical Team
Led by Director Dr. Neil B. Rosenshein and Associate Director Dr. Teresa P. Diaz-Montes, along with Dr. Dwight D. Im and Dr. Hyung S. Ryu. The Lya Segall Ovarian Cancer Institute provides patients a combination of medical excellence and individualized care. By thoughtful and creative intent, our physician leadership has carefully developed comprehensive, personalized clinical programming and care plans tailored to the needs of our patients.
Our doctors bring a level of surgical expertise that is unequaled in most hospitals across the region. We embrace a spirit of unparalleled compassion to assure our patients are educated, informed and understand each phase of their care.
Our integrated care team brings medical experts across the clinical continuum together to deliberate on best treatment options, latest advances in therapeutic care and developing care plans that are personalized to the risk factors, health and personal needs of our patients. In addition to surgical expertise, we consult our team from Chemotherapy, Radiation Oncology, Genetic Counseling, Dietary and Nutrition Counseling, Nursing and many other specialty areas.
Our integrated care team’s expertise and high quality patient care contributed to Mercy Medical Center achieving initial certification in Uterine and Ovarian Cancer from The Joint Commission, Disease-Specific Care Certification process. Mercy is the first hospital in Maryland to achieve Uterine and Ovarian Cancer certification, and is only one of a select few institutions nationwide to be so honored.

Research and Survivorship - Promising Indicators of New Advances
Research studies and clinical trials are key tools our ovarian cancer doctors hope will one day identify screenings or treatments that may reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. Mercy is a participant in the first clinical study in the U.S. to evaluate the use of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy to treat ovarian cancer.
At The Lya Segall Ovarian Cancer Institute at Mercy, a team of experts walks patients through the journey to recovery. In addition to addressing the medical aspects of recovery, our team offers access to support groups, nutrition experts, patient education and more. The Institute has partnered with the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund and QVC to connect ovarian cancer patients with volunteer survivors as mentors and support coaches through the Woman to Woman program.
There is Always Hope.
We believe The Lya Segall Ovarian Cancer Institute at Mercy offers women one of the best programs available in the nation. Physician experience and expertise blended with top rated care and the quality of Mercy give women the power of a National Center of Excellence grounded in hope and compassion.
