How is Cystoscopy performed?

Cystoscopy is performed using an instrument known as a cystoscope. A cystoscope is a hallow tube equipped with a lens. The cystoscope is inserted into your urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. The cystoscope is then slowly advanced into the bladder for examination. In some cases, additional instruments may be used to take a tissue sample (biopsy).
