Local Beauty Studio Provides Free Hair, Makeup Services For Mercy Chemotherapy Patients
Volunteer stylists from beauty studio “Up Do’s For I Do’s,” a professional wedding hair and makeup company servicing the mid-Atlantic region, recently visited Mercy’s Weinberg Outpatient Chemotherapy Unit to provide free hair and makeup services for interested Mercy chemotherapy patients.
This marks the third time in 2014 the team from “Up Do’s” provided their services gratis for Mercy cancer patients, having also visited Mercy in February and May of this year. WBAL-TV11 covered Up Do’s August visit.
Mercy’s Outpatient Chemotherapy unit features 30 private outpatient chemotherapy bays, each equipped with personal television units, oversized recliner chairs, area enough for two family members or visitors and many additional concierge services to add comfort and ease.
Boxed lunches are provided for patients who require a stay that extends through lunch. Refreshments are available throughout the day to keep patients hydrated and help with any discomfort they may experience.
The unit overlooks Preston Gardens, providing patients with a view of the largest landscaped green spaces in downtown Baltimore.
Mercy chemotherapy patients also benefit from visits from resident artists who encourage them to share their journey through a wide variety of artistic media outlets, including paint, textile, metalwork, chalk and print.
The success of the program has been so well received that many of the unique pieces are on display on the inpatient Oncology floor in The Mary Catherine Bunting Center. A therapeutic harpist will also visit the Chemotherapy Unit to provide patients with peaceful and relaxing melodies.
