Mercy Medical Center Recognized By U.S. News & World Report in Five Health Care Specialties

U.S. News & World Report, in its annual “Best Hospital” rankings for 2015-2016 has named Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore as the third best hospital in Maryland, behind only the academic medical centers at Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland. Mercy also retained its status from last year as the state’s top-ranked community hospital. This 26th annual edition of U.S. News includes information on nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide.
Mercy was named a “high performing” hospital in five areas including: Geriatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics. Mercy’s overall rating is supported by recently announced “High Performing” designations by U.S. News for Mercy in both hip replacement and knee replacement surgery.
“This latest recognition caps an incredible fiscal year of achievements for Mercy. None of this could have been accomplished without the tremendous cooperation, hard work and extraordinary teamwork of everyone at Mercy,” said Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO of Mercy Medical Center.
Mercy’s recognition by U.S. News follows on the heels of other significant accomplishments this fiscal year, including:
- Mercy one of only two Maryland hospitals to earn a 4-Star rating from the new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Star Rating system.
- Mercy received the 2015 Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades, distinguished in the top 15% of hospitals nationally.
- For the third consecutive year, Mercy received the Women’s Choice Award for as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience and was named one of “America’s Top 100 Hospitals with Great Women’s Programs” by Becker’s Hospital Review.
