The National Institute of Robotic Surgery at Mercy Medical Center  presents “Pelvic Anatomy Through the Eyes of the Robot,” the 6th annual Minimally Invasive Robotics Conference, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12th, 2016 to be held at the Four Seasons Waterfront Hotel in downtown Baltimore.

According to Course Director Dwight D. Im, M.D., FACOG, the symposium targets surgeons and healthcare providers across the region and the U.S. to advance the trained surgeon’s gynecologic robotic surgery skills through discussion and demonstration using the latest technology and techniques.

“Participants will have the opportunity to witness two live surgeries, including a single-site hysterectomy and a multi-port retroperitoneal hysterectomy with staging for endometrial cancer. We will evaluate and have in-depth presentations addressing uterine sarcoma; pre-pregnancy and post-pregnancy cerclage; robotic myomectomy and a special hands-on lab, tissue extraction,” Dr. Im said.

Course highlights will include:

  • Comprehensive overview of pelvic anatomy
  • Robotic cerclage, pre-pregnancy and antepartum outcomes
  • Advanced technology and current updates in robotic surgery
  • Two live cases including a single-site case performed on the da Vinci Xi Robot
  • On-site and take-home “how to” videos
  • Risk factors of robotic assisted surgery and the management of complications
  • Advanced training pathway for retroperitoneal hysterectomy-IMSWAY
  • Hands-on lab, tissue extraction

“There will be a heavy focus on pelvic anatomy during this year’s symposium so that participants leave with a thorough knowledge of pelvic anatomy through the eyes of the robot,” Dr. Im said.

In addition to Dr. Im, keynote speakers will include Mercy gynecologic oncologist and Director Emeritus, The Weinberg Center for Women's Health and Medicine at Mercy,  Neil B. Rosenshein, M.D., FACOG; Ricardo E. Estape, M.D., OB/GYN; and Lennox P. Hoyte, M.D., MSEECS.
