(Columbia, MD) – As part of Mercy Medical Center’s ongoing efforts to bring the 144-year Sisters of Mercy tradition of quality health care to increasing numbers throughout the region, Mercy has announced the opening of Mercy Personal Physicians at Columbia. Providing primary care and award-winning specialty care to the Howard County region, main offices are located at 6011 University Boulevard, off of Route 100 and Snowden River Parkway, with an additional location at 10700 Charter Drive, in the heart of Columbia.

Adult primary care services are provided by Dr. Ayesha Cheema. Dr. Cheema provides the Howard County community with diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of acute and chronic patient conditions, as well as wellness check-ups, annual physicals and routine exams for patients 18 years of age and up. In addition, she has Fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine, and has served as a staff hospitalist and in nursing home settings.

“Mercy’s presence in Columbia is indicative of our continued efforts to ‘ring the Beltway’ with primary and specialty care sites staffed by Mercy doctors, nurses and other clinicians—expanding access to health care to a growing population,” said Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO, Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.

In addition to adult primary care medicine, Mercy Personal Physicians at Columbia features specialty experts in:

According to Dr. George Lowe, Medical Director for Maryland Family Care, the new health care site will serve communities in Columbia, Ellicott City, Elkridge, Marriottsville, Clarksville, Jessup and Savage, MD.

“Since the opening of our center in Overlea in 2004, Mercy has created a network of health care satellites where individuals throughout the region have access to quality care--comprehensive, one-stop, medical facilities featuring primary and specialized physician care, and a variety of diagnostic and laboratory services. We are very happy to see this expansion continue in Howard County with our location in Columbia, Maryland” Dr. Lowe said.

Mercy Personal Physicians at Columbia includes access to MyChart Mercy - an online portal for health management and tracking, where patients may request and schedule appointments with their doctor online, manage prescription refills, access test results, pay bills online, view their electronic health records, hare medical information to other health providers, and more.

Mercy Personal Physicians at Columbia joins Mercy’s growing network of health care satellites which includes Lutherville, Overlea, Canton, Glen Burnie, and Reisterstown. For more information about Mercy Personal Physicians at Columbia, call 410-801-2273 or visit www.columbiadocs.com.
