Each year on March 30th, we recognize National Doctors’ Day in honor of physicians for their dedication and contributions to society and the community.
Sister Helen Amos, RSM, Executive Chair, Mercy Board of Trustees, Mercy Medical Center, encourages patients, employees and all friends of Mercy to thank Mercy doctors for their unwavering commitment to care for the sick, and to make gifts in their honor.
“Mercy is blessed to have such an incredibly talented and compassionate medical staff, all dedicated to the Mercy’s mission of excellence and service. During these trying times of COVID-19, we recognize the commitment of our doctors and clinicians,” Sister Helen said.
Since 2007, Mercy patients and their families have honored their doctors on Doctors’ Day with gifts to the Mercy Health Foundation.
“Philanthropic gifts play a key role in our ability to support the Mercy mission of providing quality, compassionate care to all our patients,” said Chief Philanthropy Officer Caroline Senatore.
Patients and their families who wish to honor a doctor can make an online gift at mercydoctorsday.com.
“As president and CEO of Mercy Health Services, and as a physician myself, I am extremely proud to recognize the work of our clinical staff, especially given the challenges of the ongoing pandemic. Many thanks to all of those who support us in fulfilling the Mercy mission, through their expressions of gratitude and giving,” said Dr. David Maine.
Doctors’ Day was first celebrated in 1933 in Winder, Georgia, recognizing the first anniversary of a doctor using ether anesthesia by Dr. Crawford W. Long. In 1990, President George H. W. Bush formally designated March 30 as National Doctors’ Day.
