About Golfer's Elbow
Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis) causes pain on the inside of the elbow due to damaged tendons and muscles that control the wrist and fingers. Repetitive movements of the wrist and fingers can injure these tendons and muscles. Golfer’s elbow can develop by participating in repetitive motion activities such as golf, throwing sports, racket sports, or improper weight training. Golfer’s elbow is different than tennis elbow in which pain occurs on the outside of the elbow.
Symptoms & Diagnosis

Symptoms of golfer’s elbow include:

  • Pain in the inner side of the elbow and possibly in the inner forearm
  • Stiffness
  • Weakness
  • Numbness or tingling that may be felt in the ring and little fingers
  • Limited motion

Golfer’s elbow can be diagnosed by taking a medical history and conducting a physical exam. X-rays may be taken to rule out other possible elbow, wrist and hand conditions such as arthritis or fractures.

Treatment Options for Golfer's Elbow

Treatment options for golfer’s elbow include:

  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Pain relievers
  • Stretching and strengthening exercises
  • Cortisone injection

If symptoms persist for more than a year, surgery may be a treatment option in order to repair the affected tendons by removing the damaged tissue.
