Outpatient Chemotherapy at Mercy
Outpatient Chemotherapy at Mercy offers cancer patients advanced chemotherapy options as part of their physician-guided treatment plans. It is often said Oncology Nurses are a very special group of people and at Mercy our nurses live up to that saying.
Mercy Oncology Nurses put their patients first and bring heart, spirit and excellence to the work they do each day.
Our Oncology Nurses are highly skilled, specially trained and bring years of experience to the warmth, compassion and hope they give their patients.
Nursing Certification Elevates Standard of Care
Chemotherapy Nurses are certified through the Oncology Nursing Society. This helps our Oncology Nurses stay attuned to the latest trends, new standards of care, quality improvement issues, effective patient support developments and other patient-centered advances.
Comforts and Amenities Create Peaceful, Healing Setting
Outpatient Chemotherapy does not require an overnight stay, but it often requires multiple visits over many months to a Mercy location. As a result, the bond between patients and their nurses is strong and lasting.
Outpatient Chemotherapy at Mercy in Baltimore was designed so patients could enjoy overlooking Preston Gardens, one of the largest landscaped green spaces in Downtown Baltimore. The bright and spacious unit has 30 private outpatient chemotherapy bays, each equipped with personal television units, oversized recliner chairs, area enough for two family members or visitors and many additional concierge services to add comfort and ease. Boxed lunches are provided for patients who require a stay that extends through lunch. Refreshments are available throughout the day to keep patients hydrated and help with any discomfort they may experience.
Art and Music Therapy Soothe the Soul
A particularly unique feature of Outpatient Chemotherapy at Mercy is the art and music therapy program. Mercy is fortunate to have Resident Artists who visit with patients and encourage them to tell their story and share their journey through a wide variety of artistic media outlets. Patients have created keepsakes in paint, textile, metalwork, chalk and print. The success of the program has been so well received that many of the unique pieces are on display on the inpatient Oncology floor in The Mary Catherine Bunting Center, Mercy’s Main Hospital.
Mercy Outpatient Chemotherapy patients are also treated to the peaceful and relaxing melodies of our Therapeutic Harpist. Infusing the arts into the healing process has proven to be an enriching experience for patients and staff, alike.
