Deborah Kirkland, RN

Deborah G. Kirkland, RN, BSN, MPH, CN-BN, is a dedicated nurse navigator at The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. A devoted advocate for breast cancer patients, Deb is certified by the National Consortium of Breast Centers as a Breast Patient Navigator in Breast Imaging and Cancer Care. Deb takes an active role in providing her patients with encouragement, education and support every step of the way from breast cancer diagnosis through treatment and beyond.

Breast Cancer Survivor Offers Extraordinary Understanding

As a breast cancer survivor herself, Deb Kirkland understands the challenges a woman faces when she receives a breast cancer diagnosis. Since her own diagnosis at a young age, Deb has dedicated her career to advancing the support, education and resources available for breast cancer patients.

Active in Community Breast Cancer Awareness

Deb Kirkland founded the Young Survival Coalition of Greater Baltimore/Breast Friends for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 40. A champion for breast cancer awareness, Deb is active in various community outreach activities including attending health events at large corporations and local churches as well as speaking with young women’s groups at colleges and nursing schools.

Nurse Navigator and Award-winning Advocate for Breast Cancer Patients

Deb Kirkland has been honored for her commitment to helping women navigate breast cancer diagnoses. She has been a guest three times at White House events dedicated to breast cancer advocacy. Deb has been the recipient of:

  • Health Care Heroes Award by The Daily Record
  • Pink Power Mom by Bright Stars, Atlanta
  • Nursing Alumni Excellence Award from Medical College of Virginia
  • Ellen Barnett Award from the Maryland Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure

In addition, Deb has been published in Nursing Spectrum and Advance for Nurses. Local and national media have turned to Deb for her expertise in helping women through their breast cancer journey.
