Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. CMS 5-Star Overall Hospital Rating
Mercy Medical Center has received a 5-Star Overall Hospital Rating, the highest possible, from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the quality of care. Mercy is among the top hospitals in the nation to achieve the highest quality rating for their stellar care.
Baltimore Magazine's Top Doctors
A total of 51 Mercy physicians were recognized in Baltimore magazine’s November 2024 “Top Doctors” issue, representing 32 separate specialties, ranging from orthopedic surgery to cancer care. Every year Baltimore magazine polls thousands of physicians in the region, asking them to identify the best doctors in Baltimore.

Mercy has been named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery by Healthgrades. The award is an indicator of superior clinical outcomes in back and neck surgery, spinal fusion, hip fracture treatment, hip replacement, and total knee replacement. Healthgrades is a nationally recognized organization that provides information about physicians, hospitals and health care providers, amassing information regarding more than 3 million U.S. health care providers.
Woman's Choice Award - Best Mammogram Imaging Center
Mercy's Center for Women's Imaging was named one of America's Best Mammogram Imaging Centers by the Women’s Choice Award. The Women’s Choice Award for Best Hospitals is a trusted referral source and coveted credential that identifies the nation's best hospitals based on robust criteria that includes relevant clinical performance, patient satisfaction and appropriate accreditations.
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Distinction Center
Mercy has been named a Blue Distinction Center+ for Spine Surgery. Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) met overall quality measures for patient safety and outcomes, developed with input from the medical community. Blue Distinction Centers + (BDC+) also met cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable healthcare. Individual outcomes may vary. National criteria is displayed on www.bcbs.com.

American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Hospital
The Magnet Recognition Program® of the American Nurses Credentialing Center recognizes the top health care organizations in the nation for quality patient care and nursing excellence. Mercy first earned Magnet Recognition in 2011 and achieved redesignation most recently in 2021.
Beacon Award for Excellence
The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) has named Mercy a gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence recipient for its Critical Care Unit. The Beacon Award for Excellence is a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments, recognizing unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards.
America's Best Midsize Employers
For multiple years Mercy Medical Center has been ranked as one of the top 500 midsize employers in the United States by Forbes magazine, a leading national business publication. Mercy was one of only two health system employers in the state to be named a “Best Employer” by Forbes in the midsize category.
America's Greatest Workplaces for Women
Mercy has been recognized by Newsweek as one of America's Greatest Workplaces for Women in 2023. The criteria is based on a large study and survey with more than 37,000 women, working in the United States for companies that employ at least 1,000 employees. Mercy earned 4.5 out of 5 stars on a scored list of the top 600 companies.
America's Most Trustworthy Companies
Newsweek has named Mercy as one of America's Most Trustworthy Companies for 2024. The top 1,000 most trustworthy companies across 23 industries were chosen based on a holistic approach to evaluating trust, including an evaluation by U.S. customers, employees and investors of a pool of 3,400 U.S.-based companies with revenues over $500 million.

American College of Surgeons and Commission on Cancer Accreditation
Mercy Medical Center was awarded Full Accreditation by the Commission on Cancer. This prestigious accreditation is the seal of approval for cancer programs from the American College of Surgeons and formally acknowledges Mercy’s commitment to providing high-quality cancer care to our community.
American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation
The Maryland Bariatric Center at Mercy has achieved Comprehensive Center accreditation by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The MBSAQIP standards ensure that metabolic and bariatric patients receive multidisciplinary medical care, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success.
National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
The American College of Surgeons has designated The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy as an accredited breast center as part of its National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, which works to provide the most efficient and contemporary breast care using scientific evidence about what works best for patients.
American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the American College of Radiology’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules.
American College of Radiology - Radiation Oncology Practice Accreditation
The Radiation Oncology Practice Accreditation Program provides radiation oncologists with third-party, impartial peer review and evaluation of patient care. The facility’s personnel, equipment, treatment-planning and treatment records as well as patient safety policies and quality control/ quality assessment activities are evaluated.
Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Accredited Facility - Vascular Testing
The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) accreditation in Vascular Testing is awarded to imaging facilities that demonstrate a high level of patient care and excellence within the discipline.
American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine Laboratory Accreditation
Mercy's electrodiagnostic laboratory has been accredited by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) and designated as Exemplary Status, the highest level of accreditation that the AANEM gives to laboratories.
College of American Pathologists - Laboratory Accreditation
The College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally recognized program designed to help laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.
