Mercy Medical Center and The Sisters Of Mercy Present the 20th Annual Preston Gardens Holiday Lights Exhibit
December 01, 2016
The Sisters of Mercy and the staff of Mercy Medical Center have announced that the Preston Gardens Holiday Lights Exhibit is now on display and will continue through early 2017.
A cooperative effort between Mercy, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works, and the Downtown Partnership, the Preston Gardens Holiday Lights will be open seven days a week.
The exhibit is located within the 3-block expanse of Preston Gardens along St. Paul Street, directly across from Mercy Medical Center’s Mary Catherine Bunting Center, Orleans Street to Saratoga Street, and is admissible to all persons.
According to Sr. Helen Amos, RSM, Executive Chair of the Board of Trustees for Mercy Health Services, the holiday lights reflect the Sisters of Mercy’s celebration of the holiday season.
“The Mercy Holiday Lights in Preston Gardens is celebrating its 20th year of bringing Christmas joy to downtown. The Mercy Medical Center display serves as a gift to the people of Baltimore from the Sisters of Mercy, even as construction continues to restore Preston Gardens to its former glory,” Sister Helen said.
Mercy’s original lighting design featured a Nutcracker theme that was replaced several years ago with a Victorian theme powered by energy efficient LED lights. It is one of the largest and longest running holiday displays in all of downtown. It features more than 50 eco-friendly displays which operate through day/night sensors.
Decorations also include such lighted shapes as a gingerbread house, skaters, carolers, horse and sleigh, Christmas trees and gift boxes. A nativity scene is located in Mercy’s McAuley Plaza entrance area, and lighted Angel figurines can be seen on the street lamps along St. Paul Street.
