Mercy Gynecologic Oncologist Dr. Teresa Diaz-Montes Addresses Ovarian Cancer Symptoms

Medical experts warn that some signs of ovarian cancer mimic symptoms of other diseases or conditions, which can make it so easy to brush them aside.
According to Mercy gynecologic oncologist and Associate Director of The Lya Segall Ovarian Cancer Institute, Dr. Teresa Diaz-Montes, all too often patients mistake potentially serious signs for menstruation.
"We all go through these phases every month,” Dr. Diaz-Montes said. “You think it's a normal pattern. What makes it abnormal is when you have the persistence of these symptoms sometime."
Dr. Diaz-Montes noted that some of those symptoms women often ignore include bloating, infrequent urination and changes in bowel movements. She suggests that it is a good idea to check with your doctor if those symptoms don't go away.
