Mercy Hosts “I’m a Mercy Baby Shower” in Conjunction with B’More Healthy Babies
May 13, 2024
Mother's Day is a time to appreciate and show some love for the caregiver in your life. However, being a new mom can be incredibly overwhelming.
That is where one medical center has come to help.
On Saturday, Mercy Medical Center capped off its weekend festivities with a baby shower for new and expecting Baltimore City mothers.
The "Shower of Giving" event provided new mothers with the tools they need on their journey into motherhood.
There, volunteers distributed diapers bags filled with donated diapers, clothes, wipes, pacifiers, blankets and bibs.
This is their first year doing the event. The shower also had face painters, a Port Discovery Kid Zone, and a reading nook.
Susan J. Dulkerian, M.D., Board Certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and Chair of Mercy's Department of Pediatrics and Medical Director of Newborn Services, The Family Childbirth and Children's Center at Mercy, discussed how the two-day, volunteer-driven affair held on the Friday and Saturday preceding Mother's Day gave individuals born at Mercy the opportunity to "pay it forward" by supporting babies of the future.
Christopher G. Thomaskutty, Mercy Senior Vice President of Physician Enterprise, and his daughter, Ella Thomaskutty (herself a "Mercy baby") were also interviewed, noting how the collected baby supplies will benefit future Mercy babies as well as families at B'more for Healthy Babies, an innovative initiative to help reduce infant mortality in Baltimore City.
