Finding Balance So That the Holidays Won't Take a Toll on Your Health
December 30, 2025
It’s easy to overdo it during the holidays. Whether it’s travel, a lack of sleep, or too many treats, this time of year can take its toll.
According to Jonathan D. Rich, D.O., a primary care doctor with Mercy Personal Physicians Downtown in Baltimore, there are ways to achieve balance as the year’s end comes and goes and schedules change.
Dr. Rich suggests not forgetting the basics, recommending getting good sleep, eating balanced meals, keeping the alcohol to a minimum, and being smart when traveling or visiting friends and family.
“Large amounts of people, lots of viruses. We know about flu, RSV, and COVID-19, but there are lots of other viruses out there as well,” Dr. Rich explained.
He recommends frequent handwashing and considering wearing masks, “especially if you’re also higher risk, immunocompromised for whatever reason—cancer or other illnesses, COPD.”
Dr. Rich added that it’s not too late to get vaccinated. Also, while people may want to eat every holiday cookie, remember to enjoy everything in moderation.
