Venefit Vericose Vein Treatment Offered by Mercy Surgeons
The Vascular Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland is a comprehensive center specializing in circulatory system disorders. Our vascular surgeons are experienced and skilled in the use of Venefit (formerly known as VNUS Closures) for the treatment of varicose veins.
What is Venefit?
Venefit is a procedure for treating varicose veins. Varicose veins are enlarged, raised or twisted blood vessels that are most commonly located in the legs and feet. For some people, these highly visible veins are unsightly and cause embarrassment; for others, varicose veins can cause pain and indicate more serious circulatory problems.
Venefit is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins. Ultrasound imaging is used to guide the catheter or a small incision may be used.
How is a Venefit Procedure performed?
A catheter is inserted into the varicose vein. Even and uniform heat is applied to the vein walls through electrical energy, causing them to collapse and seal. Once a leg vein is closed, blood flow is redirected to healthy veins.
Who should receive Venefit?
People who suffer with varicose veins are often embarrassed by them. If that embarrassment leads to lifestyle challenges, varicose vein removal is an option. For some people, varicose veins are painful and cause swelling in the feet. They require vein closure to restore walking and daily functioning.
