Amanda Tyra, PA-C, is a Certified Physician Assistant at The Melissa L. Posner Institute for Digestive Health and Liver Disease at Mercy, working closely with Dr. Bryan Curtin and the Motility team. Dedicated to patient-centered care, she evaluates, diagnoses, and treats individuals with swallowing disorders, chronic constipation and diarrhea, food intolerances, malabsorption, chronic abdominal pain, chronic nausea and vomiting, as well as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).

GI and Motility Disorders

Amanda partners with patients to diagnose and treat a wide range of neurogastroenterology and GI motility conditions, including:

Esophageal Disorders

• Achalasia
• Dysphagia (swallowing disorders)
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

Gastric Disorders

• Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying)
• Chronic nausea and vomiting
• Gastric Stimulators including evaluation, programming, and adjustment

Small Bowel Disorders

• Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
• Intestinal methanogen overgrowth (IMO)
• Small intestinal fungal overgrowth (SIFO)

Colonic & Anorectal Disorders

• Slow transit constipation
• Dyssynergic defecation (pelvic floor dysfunction)
• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Ano-rectal pain disorders

Motility Testing and Treatment Services

Amanda evaluates and interprets Motility diagnostic studies, such as:

• Breath tests for SIBO, fructose intolerance, fructan intolerance, and visceral hypersensitivity
• Colonoscopy and endoscopy reports
• Pneumatic balloon dilation
• Esophageal manometry
• Bravo capsule / pH monitoring
• Ano-rectal manometry
• Biofeedback therapy assessment
