Mercy Medical Center has announced that orthopedic surgeon Marc W. Hungerford, M.D., Chief, Division of Orthopedics, and Medical Director of Orthopedics and Joint Replacement at Mercy, has been recognized by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. as a "Top Doctor” for 2017. Dr. Hungerford was also recognized by Castle Connolly in 2016.

The national selection process for Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors" is based on both peer nomination and extensive review by a physician-led research team. Medical training, board certifications, achievements, and other credentials are also measured during the annual selection process.

Dr. Hungerford is a top rated orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult joint replacement, including hip and knee replacement. Patients from across the Baltimore region seek Dr. Hungerford’s expertise in performing MAKOplasty® knee resurfacing and anterior hip replacement

Board Certified, Dr. Marc Hungerford is the first orthopedic surgeon in Maryland to perform MAKOplasty, a minimally invasive partial knee procedure powered by the RIO® Robotic Arm Technology. Patients suffering from osteoarthritis in the knee seek Dr. Hungerford’s orthopedic expertise to help them find relief and return to daily activities.

Dr. Marc Hungerford is one of the first orthopedic surgeons in Maryland to perform anterior hip replacement. This minimally invasive technique gives Dr. Hungerford the ability to perform hip replacements with a smaller incision and shorter recovery time.  Dr. Hungerford was integral in launching The Joint Journey at Mercy. This patient-centered program guides and educates patients throughout the hip and knee replacement process – from pre-operative to post-operative care with a goal of faster recovery and return to normal daily activities.

Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. identifies top doctors, both nationally and regionally, based on an extensive nominations process open to all licensed physicians in the United States. The Castle Connolly physician-led research team reviews and screens all nominated physicians before selecting those regarded as the most outstanding healthcare providers to be Top Doctors. Physicians do not and cannot pay to be selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
