Breastfest 2021 Supports the Efforts of Mercy's Hoffberger Breast Center

BREASTFEST 2021 will feature both an “in-person” event as well as the “Breastfest in a Bag” option first offered last year due to the pandemic. The in-person event will be held on Sat., Oct. 16th, 2-7 p.m. at Nick’s Fish House at the Crab Yard, 2600 Insulator Dr, Baltimore, MD 21230. Tickets are available for individual or group purchase; BreastFest in a Bag is also available and includes a reusable tote bag, a tumbler, a beach towel, a crab cookie cutter, a portable speaker and more.

Pickup of Breastfest in a Bag will be held on Fri., Oct. 15th at Hightopps Backstage Grille on York Road in Timonium, 5:30-7 p.m. and can also be obtained at Nick’s on Oct. 16th. Known for their slogan “Save the Girls”, The Tyanna Foundation has hosted many cocktails-for-a-cause style events, raising funds for The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, along with other organizations in their sister cities: Dewey Beach, DE, Philadelphia, PA; Athens, GA and South Jersey.

Their efforts help Mercy provide excellent care to many thousands of women diagnosed and treated for breast cancer,” said Neil B. Friedman, M.D., FACS, Director, The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy, and Medical Director, The Weinberg Center for Women's Health & Medicine at Mercy.

According to Dr. Friedman, over the past 20+ years, through this event and others, the Tyanna Foundation has provided over $1.5 million to Mercy to support breast cancer centers, services and programs including:

• The Tyanna O'Brien Fellowship in Women's Imaging at Mercy
• Patient Education and Transportation Assistance
• Prosthetics and Lymphedema Garments for patients in need
• Clinical programming support, updated technology and advanced medical equipment such as 3D mammography

One out of eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women ages 40-55. Early detection is the key in preventing these deaths and ensuring health and wellness. The first steps of early detection are education and awareness.

The Tyanna Foundation (www.Tyanna.org) was founded by five sisters. The organization gets its name from Tyanna Barre O’Brien who lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 48. Through the work of her daughters Anne, Bridget, Megan, Sara and Katie—and everyone who raises a glass (and awareness) in a mother’s honor, Tyanna’s legacy lives on.
