Why Are My Hands Always Cold?

If your hands are continually cold, it could be for a number of reasons. Anemiahypothyroidism, circulatory conditions, Raynaud's syndrome and diabetes, are just some of the conditions that can cause this issue.

According to Ernestine A. Wright, M.D., FACP, a primary care physician with Mercy Personal Physicians Downtown in Baltimore, doctors can help treat the underlying conditions when someone complains of chronically cold hands.

"There are certain things you can do to try to keep your hands warm by wearing gloves or mittens, and try to avoid areas, like an air-conditioned building or colder areas in the grocery store. And we know that stress can play a role. For example, Raynaud's brings on an attack of your arteries going into spasm," said Dr. Wright.

Dr. Wright suggests sharing this information with your doctor, who can perform tests to help diagnose the problem.
