Medical oncologists Peter Ledakis, M.D. and Anokhi Patel, M.D. of Medical Oncology and Hematology at Mercy are guests of the hospital’s ongoing talk show series, Medoscopy, airing on Facebook Watch, Wednesday and Thursday, August 21 and 22 at 5:30 p.m. EST.

A 30-minute, pre-taped program that explores the background and lives of Mercy clinicians, patients and others, Medoscopy was launched in spring 2022 and airs in two 15-minute segments. To view past episodes, visit the Medoscopy playlist on the Mercy Medical Center YouTube channel.

In this latest installment, Drs. Patel and Ledakis discuss their work in the treatment of various cancer conditions and shed light on their backgrounds and on life outside the hospital.

Dr. Patel notes how she “went off to medical school right after high school as an 18-year-old,” attending the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice in Poland. Dr. Ledakis, who “grew up in the suburbs of Athens” and whose given name, Panayotis, means “all holy” in Greek, explains how he earned his medical degree from the University of Athens Medical School in Greece.

On more personal notes, Dr. Patel relays a childhood interest in jigsaw puzzles and, as an adult, enjoys travel with her husband and 9-month-old son. Dr. Ledakis shares his interest in the works of Greek author, journalist, politician, poet and philosopher, Nikos Kazantzakis.

During Medoscopy’s regular “show and tell” segment, Dr. Ledakis presents the certificate he earned while still in middle and high school in Tae Kwon Do; Dr. Patel shares the inscribed Yeti drinkware, a large insulated bottle, that was a gift from a grateful patient.

Dr. Ledakis is the supervisor of Mercy’s Anticoagulation Lab and actively participates in clinical research of peritoneal carcinomatosis, gastrointestinal malignancies and related disorders. Dr. Patel is a fellowship-trained physician providing diagnosis and treatment for a broad range of cancers and blood disorders, such as leukemia and lymphoma and colon and rectal cancers

Medoscopy is filmed on the campus of Mercy Medical Center in downtown Baltimore with video, sound, and lighting by Zinnia Film.
