Mercy Physicians Named Among Baltimore's "Top Docs" in November 2015 Issue of Baltimore Magazine

Eight Mercy Medical Center physicians were recognized in Baltimore magazine’s November 2015 “Top Docs” issue, specifically:

• Dr. Marvin Jack Feldman – Oncology, General
• Dr. David Maine, Pain Management
• Dr. Neil B. Friedman, Breast Surgery
• Dr. Karen Perkins, General Obstetrics 
• Drs. Neil B. Rosenshein & Dwight Im, Gynecologic Oncology
• Dr. R. Mark Ellerkmann, Gynecology & Women’s Health (Urogynecology)
• Dr. Bernard Chang, Plastic Surgery: Breast

Each Mercy physician was recognized as among the best in their respective fields.

Mercy’s Dr. Neil B. Friedman, Director, The Hoffberger Breast Center, was also included via a special profile where he answered a series of questions such as, “What sorts of moments tell you that (pursuing a career in medicine) was the right career decision?” 

“When patients come back after treatment and you see the relief in their faces, the gratitude, and they give you a big hug,” Dr. Friedman said.

Mercy’s presence in Baltimore magazine’s “Top Docs” edition is the latest recognition the nationally acclaimed hospital has received in 2015. U.S. News & World Report, in its annual “Best Hospital” rankings for 2015-2016 named Mercy as the third best hospital in Maryland, behind only the academic medical centers at Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland. Mercy retained its status from last year as the state’s top-ranked community hospital.

Mercy was named a “high performing” hospital in five areas including: Geriatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics. Mercy’s overall rating is supported by recently announced “High Performing” designations by U.S. News for Mercy in both hip replacement and knee replacement surgery.

Mercy was also noted as one of only two Maryland hospitals to earn a 4-Star rating from the new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Star Rating system. Mercy received the 2015 Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades, distinguished in the top 15% of hospitals nationally. For the third consecutive year, Mercy received the Women’s Choice Award for as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience and was named one of “America’s Top 100 Hospitals with Great Women’s Programs” by Becker’s Hospital Review.
