The national selection process for Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors" is based on both peer nomination and extensive review by a physician-led research team. Medical education and training, board certifications, hospital appointments, administrative posts, professional achievements, and other credentials are also measured during the annual selection process.
“For many years now, Mercy physicians have received Castle Connolly’s annual ‘Top Doctors’ accolades, further proof of Mercy Medical Center’s commitment to providing patients with access to quality care delivered by an exemplary medical staff, representing a range of specialties, from cancer surgery to orthopedics,” said Thomas R. Mullen, President and CEO, Mercy Health Services, Mercy Medical Center.
Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. identifies top doctors, both nationally and regionally, based on an extensive nominations process open to all licensed physicians in the United States. This involves contacting directly more than 50,000 physicians and hospital and healthcare executives, a nationwide distribution of nomination notifications via various media channels.
Physicians do not and cannot pay to be selected as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. A physician cannot nominate him/herself.
The Castle Connolly physician-led research team makes tens of thousands of phone calls each year, talking with leading specialists, chairs of clinical departments and vice presidents of medical affairs, seeking to gather further information regarding the top specialists for most diseases and procedures. Each year, Castle Connolly receives nearly 100,000 nominations via this process. It is the professional judgment of the Castle Connolly editors, the Chief Medical and Research Officer and the research staff, which determines Castle Connolly Top Doctor™ selection.
