About the Center

The Vascular Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, is led by Dr. Paul Lucas, Director of The Vascular Center and Chief of Vascular Surgery at Mercy. He is joined by surgeons Dr. Vincent Noori and Dr. Alain Tanbe, as well as a team of experienced technologists.

Mercy’s Vascular Center offers comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of circulatory system disorders including stroke and mini stroke, leg pain and swelling, blood clots in veins, aneurysms, vein disease, varicose veins and circulatory disease.

The Center provides a high level of expertise and a range of advanced treatment options. Our vascular surgeons are Board Certified and Fellowship-trained in vascular surgery – a distinction that sets our experts apart from those of many area vein centers and vein clinics.

Our vascular surgeons address a variety of circulatory problems with advanced treatments:

• Balloon angioplasty
• Stent-graft repairs
• Endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repairs

The Latest Treatments for Varicose Vein Care

Varicose vein treatment involves different methods to either close or remove the diseased, painful vein(s) so that blood flow can be redirected to healthy veins. Depending on the severity and individual case, varicose veins can be treated with a variety of therapies.

Minimally Invasive Techniques for Varicose Vein Treatment

With extensive experience in minimally invasive techniques, our surgeons offer treatment options that can be conveniently performed in an office setting and require little to no downtime from light daily activities. These procedures typically avoid scarring and result in minimal post-surgical pain, giving you almost immediate results in terms of reduced pain from varicose veins and improved appearance often within weeks.

The Vascular Center at Mercy provides the most comprehensive care for vein disease, offering a range of treatment options, tailored to each patient’s personal needs and severity of the disease:

• VeinGogh- microelectronic burst technology to treat small Telangiectasia and spider veins. Safe for all skin types. Very useful on face as well.

• Sclerotherapy – injections into the affected veins that cause the vein to collapse and disappear. Typically best for spider veins and small varicose veins.

• Radiofrequency ablation (Venefit) – a minimally invasive option involving insertion of a catheter into the vein so that heat and electric current can be used to form scar tissue and close the vein.

• Medical adhesive procedures (Venaseal) - a minimally invasive procedure in which a “vein glue” is inserted into the vein via a catheter and ultrasound guidance. The medical adhesive completely seals the vein shut and reroutes blood flow through healthy veins.

• Deep vein intervention – for patients with more advanced venous disease including chronic DVT (deep vein thrombosis – blood clots in the deep veins within muscular structure). Mercy’s highly-trained physician team offers specialized deep vein interventions that are only available in the most advanced vein centers. Surgical procedures via tiny incisions are used to remove the vein and correct blood flow.

Nationally Accredited Diagnostic Laboratories throughout Greater Baltimore

The Vascular Center at Mercy includes a nationally accredited Vascular Laboratory. All of our vascular surgeons are Registered Physicians in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). Our lab screens patients for stroke and mini-stroke, poor circulation, leg swelling or pain, blood clots and aneurysms. Our nationally registered technologists use non-invasive ultrasound and Doppler equipment to better understand a patient's diagnosis and treatment options.

Our Vascular Lab includes locations throughout the Baltimore area, equipped with high-definition, state-of-the-art technologies so patients can undergo diagnosis and treatment for circulatory and vein disease in an office that is convenient to them:

With on-site labs, detection, diagnosis and treatment planning can occur within 24 hours for most patients.
